Several years ago, our family and a few dear friends visited the famed Horseshoe Falls on the U.S. side of Niagara Falls.
Even though one cannot help but be overwhelmed by the 3 million gallons of water per second that pass over the crest of the Falls, the most memorable component of our visit were two signs located on the Upper River. The first is 3.2 miles upstream from the actual Falls. That sign says “Danger Zone.” From that sign, one is in unmitigated danger IF their boat motor experiences ANY loss of power. In other words, if you don’t have a mechanized boat, once you pass that point you are in imminent peril/danger of death.
The other sign is further down, closer to the actual Falls itself. It says, “Point Of No Return.” Once one passes that “point,” no possibility of rescue exists. Not even a high powered boat motor can save you. The current is so strong and fast at that point, that certain death is inevitable.
This evening, I was thinking about those two signs in relation to where we are currently as a nation. Morally, militarily, economically, and certainly spiritually, we have been in the “Danger Zone” for some time. Now, we are approaching the “Point Of No Return.” Despite an incredibly powerful “motor” that MUST be completely, dynamically and immediately employed, our beloved land will not/cannot be saved.
That “motor” is NOT a president, or any human being for that matter. The only thing that can turn this nation around, saving it from certain death is actually a Person–Jesus Christ. Apart from a deliberate and dynamic return to Him, we are as good as lying on the rocks below the moral precipice toward which we are rapidly moving. God’s church, led by courageous, direct, and fearless preachers/pastors, must turn with a vengeance back to the great God who, in His sovereign will, birthed the United States of America.
None of my comments above should be interpreted as a justification for lack of political involvement. A thousand times NO! No, part of our return to the Great God of heaven is involvement in one of His three institutions–civil government.
God’s men absolutely MUST be willing to speak with candor, conviction, and unmitigated courage directly to God’s people–calling them to humble repentance and the exercise of their God-given, First Amendment rights, yea responsibilities. Part of those responsibilities involve voting as Biblically as possible–not for the perfect candidate, but for the candidate, whose positions and policies, most closely align with the truth of God’s word. This time, that can be easily ascertained. Simply read the platform positions of the Republican and Democratic parties. The two could not be further apart.
