A few short days ago, hundreds of pastors, ministry leaders, engaged believers gathered in Charlotte, NC, at Southern Evangelical Seminary, to participate in a phenomenal conference called, “U Turn–A Roadmap For Renewal.”
From the very start, the room was filled with eager and expectant listeners, who were not disappointed. Pastor Paul Blair (Fairview Baptist Church, Edmond, OK) led off with a powerful message on the Biblical and historical role of pastors. In the number two slot was George Barna, who presented challenging and convicting statistics as to why many pastors fail to address the contemporary issues of the day from the pulpit–addressing them from a thoroughly Biblical perspective. Then, David Barton (Wallbuilders) followed up with a powerful expose on the role of Patriot pastors from the founding era.
The conference was a jam-packed day of instruction, inspiration and motivation, as each speaker built on the prior one. The day was rounded out with an absolutely gripping presentation by 9-11 pilot/survivor Steve Scheibner (author of “In My Seat–A Pilot’s Story”). The impact could be seen and felt as I was able to make concluding remarks and issue a clarion challenge to all in attendance to COMMIT to do four critical things–(1) PREACH the whole council of God, including and especially those passages dealing with the cultural issues facing us. (2) PRAY fervently for a genuine revival in the land. (3) ENCOURAGE those in the pew to stand up and be counted, then lead them to (4) ENGAGE with the truth. At that point, the room stood to it’s feet to make a serious and significant commitment to do those exact four things.
I continue to hear from attendees as to the powerful impact the conference had on their lives and ministries. What is most thrilling is to hear pastors say, “I must now change some things at my church to accomplish what I have allowed to go unaddressed–the confrontation of my culture with the applicably proclaimed Word of God as I stand for truth.” It was the privilege of the North Carolina Pastors Network (NCPN) to host this outstanding event and to see God’s direct hand at work.
